I have set up little areas around my home for J and eventually G to play with.  In the kitchen, we have an Art and Craft table with a variety of things for J to create with, without me having to set it up everyday!  If he feels the need to be creative, he knows where to find everything.  I must say, he uses it every day and at various points.  I get lots of presents made for me and J loves to be able to do this completely independently.  All I have to do is keep the boxes topped up and tidy it properly after J has ‘tidied.’

The ‘really useful boxes’ (as the range is called) are indeed really useful…  in them we have:

  • Pom poms (Our favourite)
  • Pieces of drinking straws cut into different lengths
  • Shiny ribbon
  • Different colour wooden sticks (art and craft store)
  • Dry pasta shells of different shapes
  • Wooden letters and numbers
  • Different colour feathers
  • Play dough
  • Self adhesive foam shapes
  • Googly eyes
  • Tissue paper cut into small pieces
  • Elastic bands
  • Sticky tape and glue

The table also has sharpened coloured pencils, child safety scissors (mine are Crayola), and in the Ikea number 1 basket, I picked up some different shape wooden chests for J to do whatever he wants with.

Next to the table is a basket, in there we have,

  • Aprons
  • Cardboard boxes of different shapes and sizes
  • Empty tubes, bottles,
  • Scrap paper
  • Ice cube trays
  • Tubs

My husband now knows, boxes and tubs of interesting shapes, MUST go in the basket!!
